My Bio

I am currently a first-year education student in the BEd (elementary) program at Thompson Rivers University. Before embarking on my journey in education, I pursued studies in psychology, communications, and sociology. These diverse fields have equipped me with a rich understanding of human development, effective communication, and social dynamics, which I am eager to integrate into my teaching practice.

My background in psychology has provided me with insights into the developmental stages of students and strategies for supporting their mental well-being. Additionally, my communications expertise ensures that I can effectively engage with both students and parents in a professional manner. Furthermore, my studies in sociology have instilled in me a commitment to recognizing and addressing unconscious biases, allowing me to approach teaching with empathy and inclusivity.

My passion for education traces back to my early years, when I began coaching various sports, including hockey, skating, soccer, and basketball, at the age of 12. Through these experiences, I developed a profound appreciation for the role of sports in children’s lives and sought to create opportunities for young athletes, particularly girls, in my community. This led me to establish a successful female hockey program, which has flourished over the years, providing recreational and competitive opportunities for girls of all ages. Additionally, I have dedicated over a decade to officiating hockey games and advocating for female officials, further demonstrating my commitment to promoting equity and inclusion in sports.

Beyond the realm of athletics, I am passionate about the outdoors and environmental stewardship. As an avid hiker, camper, hunter, and fisher, I am eager to incorporate my love for the land into my teaching practice, emphasizing the importance of respect for the environment and outdoor exploration in children’s development. My work experience has been focused on educating both adults and students about the significance of outdoor engagement, environmental stewardship, and integrating outdoor activities into education. I have collaborated with organizations such as BC Parks and the Regional District of East Kootenay, leveraging each opportunity to merge my passion for land stewardship with education to effect positive change in our environment and individuals’ overall well-being. Through these roles, I have developed strategies to inspire others to connect with nature, participate in environmental initiatives, and adopt sustainable practices. These experiences have equipped me with valuable tools that I can leverage to introduce these initiatives into my classroom and school community in engaging and impactful ways. I am excited to incorporate my knowledge and expertise in outdoor education and environmental stewardship to foster a deeper appreciation for the natural world among my students and to empower them to become responsible stewards of the environment.

With my personal experiences and educational background, I bring a unique and inspiring perspective to elementary education. I am deeply committed to creating safe and inclusive learning environments where all students feel valued and supported. I look forward to the opportunity to pursue my passion for education and make a meaningful impact in the lives of my future students.
