Welcome to My Teaching ePortfolio!

Hello, and thank you for visiting my ePortfolio! My name is Kyra, and I am an aspiring educator pursuing my Bachelor of Education (Elementary) at Thompson Rivers University. I am on track to receive my BC teaching certification in May 2025. Currently, I am completing my 10-week practicum in a Kindergarten classroom in beautiful School District #5.
I am honoured to be teaching and learning on the unceded territory of the Ktunaxa peoples during my practicum. While studying on campus, I was privileged to learn and live on the unceded territory of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc within Secwepemcúl’ecw. As a future educator, I am committed to fostering respectful stewardship of the land and furthering decolonization and reconciliation efforts by incorporating Indigenous epistemologies, pedagogies, and ontologies into my teaching practice.
Before pursuing my degree in education, I studied psychology, communications, and sociology, which have enriched my understanding of human development, effective communication, and social dynamics. These insights guide my inclusive, empathetic approach to teaching and my commitment to creating safe, supportive learning environments.
My journey into education began at age 12 when I coached hockey, skating, soccer, and basketball. Passionate about empowering young female athletes, I co-founded a thriving female hockey program in my community, offering recreational and competitive opportunities for girls of all ages. My decade-long dedication to officiating hockey and advocating for female officials reflects my commitment to equity and inclusion in sports.
Beyond the classroom, I am an avid hiker, camper, hunter, and fisherman, driven by a deep respect for nature and a commitment to environmental stewardship. Working with organizations like BC Parks and the Regional District of East Kootenay, I have inspired others to connect with nature, engage in environmental initiatives, and adopt sustainable practices. I am eager to integrate these experiences into my teaching, helping students develop a profound appreciation for the natural world and empowering them to become responsible stewards of the environment.
Throughout this ePortfolio, you will discover who I am as an educator and how my diverse experiences shape my teaching philosophy. My goal is to create inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environments where every student feels valued and empowered. I am excited to continue my journey in education and look forward to making a meaningful impact in the lives of my future students.
Thank you for taking the time to explore my ePortfolio. I am eager to connect and share more about my passion for education and my vision for creating positive, lasting change in the classroom.
